Developing Successful
Students
Private school high schools are considered to be an
excellent way to fully prepare students for post-secondary education. While
achieving the grades that are required to get into a reputable university is
important, having the ability to successfully maintain those grades once there
requires a certain set of learning skills and study habits that private schools
instill in their students.
Private schools provide their students with many different
tools to ensure they maintain a strong academic standing in any post-secondary
institution they enter after graduation.
Well-Rounded
Individuals
To prepare students for post-secondary school, prep schools
work to instill proper study and research habits in each of their students, preparing
them for new ways of learning. In post-secondary institutions, it is important
that students are able to apply analytical thinking and different ways of gathering
information, concepts that private
schools teach.
By applying a "learning by doing” approach, teachers and
administrators in private schools encourage students to take an active interest
in their own education by becoming involved in projects, group discussions and
field trips. By constantly offering educational challenges and encouraging
students to ask all necessary questions, they develop the skill of analytical
thinking that will be extremely beneficial to them in university.
Also by encouraging students to become involved in
extra-curricular activities, private schools help them learn how to efficiently
balance work with leisure time. Athletic teams, organizations and clubs give
students a positive outlet outside of the classroom. This, as well, is a means to develop
long-lasting relationships with peers, a sense of school spirit, sportsmanship,
leadership qualities, and confidence. Programs that place an emphasis on art and
music allow students to gain an appreciation for culture, while also
determining where their own natural talents and personal interests lie.
These characteristics contribute to the development of
well-rounded individuals who are capable of balancing the new social
engagements and workloads that come with university life.
Smaller Class Sizes
With a reduced teacher-to-student ratio in private secondary
schools, educators are able to ensure each student is on the proper path
towards achieving exceptional grades. Teachers can establish better
relationships with students and can effectively pinpoint their strengths and
weaknesses, allowing them to address learning obstacles early on so that they
can be corrected quickly and efficiently.
Private schools put students on the right path towards
future academic success and help to guide them towards a healthy and fulfilled
life.
High School and
Beyond
Often, students who were able to maintain good grades in
high school find that they have trouble keeping up with the fast pace of
university life. This happens for several different reasons, one of them being
that universities require students to have the confidence and self-sufficiency
to carry on with their assignments and projects independently, without being
guided every step of the way.
In general, private high school offers students the best
prep curriculums’’ and personal growth to better transition for university. Private
school students are typically more mature with better study skills, and are more
disciplined in many ways.
